Recent Press Mentions!

We’ve been getting quite a few shout-outs lately from various places around the web, and we just wanted to take a minute and recognize them. It always means a lot to us when we get noticed, so we want to thank anyone and everyone who takes the time to write about us! Here are a few of our most recent mentions.

The Wall Street Journal recently published an article titled “You Can’t Corral Some Folks’ Taste for Ranch Dressing” where they discuss the growing popularity of the ranch flavor. We were happy to see that our Cool Ranch Kale Chips got mentioned! Here’s what they said:

“At Whole Foods Market, the number of ranch-flavored vegan and vegetarian snack options has nearly doubled over the past five years due to consumer demand, says Dwight Richmond, global grocery purchasing coordinator at the upscale supermarket chain.

Among the offerings: Rhythm Superfoods Kool Ranch kale chips and ranch-flavored Go Raw Salad Snax—nonperishable munchies made from raw dehydrated kale, carrots and other vegetables.”

Thank you for noticing us WSJ!

August Spotify Playlist

Here in Austin, summer seems to last forever! While the rest of the country is on its way to a change in seasons, we’re still living out the dog days. Some time in late September, the weather will start to cool down and lead us into fall-like temperatures, but until then, we’re going to keep on playing our summer tunes and living the good life! This month we’ve got some great tracks for your lazy summer afternoons. Click on the playlist below and jam right along with us. Be sure to follow us on Spotify today!

Bloggers Take Note!

We just want to give a quick shout-out to the bloggers who’ve written about us recently. There is truly no better way to spread the word about our products than word of mouth, and we are absolutely honored every time a media outlet notices us, be it television, newspapers, magazines, or blogs. Here’s some of the latest praise we’ve gotten from some great blogs!

On June 8th, Sian Bitner-Kearney, of Skinny Mom did a piece entitled ‘10 Grab N’ Go Healthy Snacks,’ and we were included in the list! She sets up the article

“Let’s face it, if you’re a mom it doesn’t matter if you have one child or 10, you’re life is busy, fast-paced and often lacking the extra time to prep healthy snacks for the road. Whether you’re on the lookout for superfood snacks to keep you and your diet on track, or a healthy treat for the kids that isn’t packed with sugar, these 10 healthy snack suggestions from Made Man will keep everyone completely satisfied.”

We landed first on the list of her healthy snack choices. Here’s what she had to say about our kale chips:

“Kale could be the trendiest vegetable on the planet right now. However, this nutritional darling is no Kardashian—the leafy green has actually earned its celebrity. A one-ounce serving of kale chips delivers a whopping three days’ worth of vitamin K (which helps blood clot and might boost bone strength in elderly folks), as well as ample doses of antioxidants vitamins A and C. And despite packing less than half the fat of regular potato chips, Rhythm Kale Chips’ array of savory flavors (honey mustard, mango habanero, Texas BBQ) keep your taste buds engaged.”

Thanks Skinny Mom!

Our second blog mention comes from National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA) volunteer Alex Shimalla via the Gluten-Free Hot Products website. On June 10th she wrote a review of our Mango Habanero Kale Chips that was absolutely loaded with praise! Here’s a little of what she said:

“A few months ago, my mom sent me a care package at college. In this box was a package of kale chips. This snack has now become one of my favorite (healthy) potato chip alternatives ever! The kale has been baked so each piece is nice and crispy. In just the first bite, you’re hit with the flavor of (surprisingly) a slight cheesy note. I couldn’t imagine kale could taste so good. So, of course, I went for another bite. After I put the second few chips into my mouth, I discovered the habanero. The heat is definitely there, but—luckily for those who aren’t the biggest fans of hot foods—the heat and flavor are not overwhelming. All in all, the flavors complement each other nicely. These chips are addictive actually…I ended up eating the entire bag (which is two servings) in a single sitting.

Rhythm Superfood has truly outdone itself. Their kale chips are certified gluten-free and organic. Not to mention, their products are made with minimal ingredients, so you can feel good about eating a “chip” from a bag (nothing processed or filled with ingredients you can’t pronounce).”

Thank you so much, we’re glad you liked them!

Austin Woman Magazine Loves Us!

We are blessed with countless great local media outlets here in Austin. From television and newspapers, to magazines and locally based blogs, we have a great assortment of information sources. Nothing makes us happier than when we get specifically noticed by these local folks, so we were thrilled when we got included in Austin Woman Magazine’s latest issue! The article was entitled “Snack Attack,” and gave some healthy snacking options for the health conscious snacker. Author Andy East sets up the article by examining the current Texas health climate.

“People say everything is bigger in Texas, but unfortunately, the old adage also describes Texans’ waistlines. According to F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America’s Future, as of 2013, nearly 7.8 million Texans were clinically obese, meaning they sported a Body Mass Index of at least 30. While dieting may not be the only factor contributing to Texas’ obesity epidemic, healthy eating habits can go a long way to improving our well-being. And what better way to inject some extra nutrients in to your family’s diet than with a healthy snack? Saddle up as Austin Woman helps you stave off temptation with some delectable, healthy snacks done Austin-style.”

East then suggests some healthy snacking options including nuts, kale chips, and coconut milk ice cream. Here’s what he had to say about kale chips:

“While kale may not be everyone’s cup of tea, by adding a pinch of zest to this nutrient-rich green, kale chips could do the trick. One cup of kale contains enough vitamins and nutrients to put the entire food pyramid to shame. Just one cup of kale is loaded with more than 200 percent of the daily value of vitamin A and more than 600 percent of vitamin K, the latter of which can safeguard you from several different cancers.
Kale is also high in calcium, iron, vitamin C and potent antioxidants. In recent years, companies like Austin’s Rhythm Superfoods have begun to produce kale chips, available in an assortment of flavors such as pineapple coconut, zesty nacho and Texas BBQ. When eaten in moderation, kale chips can be a nice alternative to fried potato chips.”

Thanks for the shout-out, Austin Woman!

Happy Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day, and all eyes are on nature! It is a beautiful day today here in Austin, and we hope that everyone else around the country is experiencing this gorgeous spring weather. It’s fitting that today be so beautiful outside, because that’s what today is all about. As part of the healthy living world, we believe that taking care of our planet is just as important as taking care of our bodies. Here are some quick Earth Day facts that everyone should know!

Today marks the 44th anniversary of Earth Day; a day intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for Earth’s natural environment.

The day came about as a reaction to a massive oil spill in waters near Santa Barbara, California, in 1969.

More than 20 million people participated in the first Earth Day in 1970, and by the end of that year, Congress authorized the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Although it was started in the United States, by 1990, Earth Day was a global phenomenon, with over 200 million participants in 140 countries. It is now the world’s largest civic observance, with over 1 billion participants.

The theme of the 2014 Earth Day is “Green Cities,” inspiring millions of people to creat a sustainable, healthy environment by greening communities worldwide.

NASA is participating in Earth Day this year with the agency’s #GlobalSelfie event, asking people to take a photo of themselves outside and post it to social media using the hashtag #GlobalSelfie. NASA will use the images to create a mosaic image of Earth that will be a new “Blue Marble” built with your photos. Get more info on how to participate here.

Superfood Madness Recap!

The votes are all in and the winner of this year’s #SuperfoodMadness tournament is… KALE!
We pitted sixteen top superfoods against one another in a no holds barred competition to see who came out on top. Though it was a hard fought struggle, the honor this year went to one of our very favorite superfoods, kale. We were absolutely ecstatic when we saw that the results of the final matchup favored the same leafy green that was the original star of our product line! Thank you to everyone who voted in Superfood Madness this year; we can’t wait until next year’s competition!

Expo West Recap

This year’s Natural Products Expo West was fantastic, and wanted to recap all the great experiences we had. After debuting our newest flavors of kale chips at last year’s Expo West, we wanted to shine a spotlight on our new Superfood Chips this year.

We snagged a prime location on the floor and gave out samples by the thousands. From all accounts, people absolutely loved our chips! We had a new booth this year with a showcase featuring our Superfood Chips, and we were very pleased with the delivery. Check it out!

We also had a great time rubbing elbows with other hometown brands at the Austin Brands Happy Hour. 16 or more local Austin brands showed up, and we made the most of it!

Most of all, we were absolutely flattered by the interest that was taken in our chips by many of the press outlets in attendance. One that has already published about us, as well as a few others who impressed them, is Fitsugar. Check out this great write up that we got on their site:

“We’ve tasted our share of healthy chips, but when an unexpected — and nutritious! — ingredient gets thrown in the mix, we get really excited. The next time you’re craving something salty and crunchy, you’ll definitely want one of these protein-, fiber-, and potassium-rich chips that were being touted at the Natural Products Expo in Anaheim, CA. The star ingredient? Quinoa — it doesn’t get much healthier than that!”

“Supergrains like quinoa, amaranth, and oat bran come together to create Rhythm Superfood Chips. Higher in protein and fiber than a traditional chip, these chips are also baked, not fried. While I was partial to the jalapeño lime, the nacho flavor would be the pick for anyone who fancies a bag of Doritos.”

Thanks Fitsugar!

We had so much fun at Expo West this year, and we absolutely cannot wait to go back! Many thanks to all the people involved who helped make this event happen. We are so happy to be a part of such a great community!

SXSW Recap

Last week in Austin was the 2014 installation of the South by Southwest Festival, and we were part of some great events this year! We gave out tons of samples and got to be a part of a few really cool music showcases. Here’s a quick recap of all the fun stuff we did around town during the festival.

Between March 7th and 16th, we made the rounds in our Kale Kar to all the local Whole Foods Markets in Austin doing product demos and giving samples to the droves of hungry out-of-towners in for SXSW. We had demos everyday during the festival, and were always a welcome addition to the Austin experience!

We also did a lot of activities more directly associated with the festival. During the interactive portion of SXSW, we gave away our Superfood Chips as part of a “swag bag” given out at the Mass Relevance Social Suite. We also contributed to the swag table at the TECHmunch Food Blogger/Media Conference at Whole Foods.

When the music started flowing into the city, we took part in the Tune Up & Sound Off SX2014 Showcases. You could find our chips in the artist lounge as well as the fan sampling we did at the showcases at Red Eyed Fly, Austin Ale House, and Old School.

Early in the week, we were part of the South by Penn Field event that happened right here in our own back yard, where we gave out product samples and partied with our fellow Penn Field brands and friends.

Finally, one of our favorite events was the Playing In Traffic Day Party at Whole Foods which featured a ton of awesome bands such as Los Lonely Boys, SPEAK, The Dunwells, Sahara Smith, and East Cameron Folkcore. We parked the Kale Kar right on 6th street and gave away samples, and then we got to go on mic and thank everyone for supporting local brands. The guys from Los Lonely Boys even had some of our Jalapeño Lime Superfood Chips with them on stage!

We can’t wait for SXSW to come back around! We had an absolute blast, and we hope everyone else did too. If you’re in town next year, be sure to check our Facebook feed. We’ll surely be making even more appearances around town!

Follow that Kale Kar!

We have a new addition to the Rhythm Superfoods family, and we’re super excited about it! We frequently do product demos around Austin and the surrounding region led by our amazing field team. You’ll often find them in the local Austin Whole Foods Markets slinging samples of our Kale Chips and our new Superfood Chips, but unless you happened to already be in the store, you would have to have seen the demo announcement on our Facebook or Twitter feeds to know they were there.

Enter the Kale Kar (A.K.A. The Greatest Vegetable-Themed Vehicle in History)!

Now that we’re cruising the streets in this bad boy, you’ll know we’re out and ready to give you some awesome samples. See the Kale Kar parked at a store? Come on in and get a sample! See us cruising? Follow that Kale Kar! Delicious and healthy chips are sure to be inside! We look forward to seeing you all when we’re out and about!

Shout-Out from The Statesman!

We are always happy to get mentions in the press, but when we got our latest shout-out, we were downright proud! This latest press mention comes from none other than our local newspaper here in Austin: The Austin- American Statesman.

It is always great to know that the people in your own backyard are paying attention, and the folks at The Statesman were on the ball, as always, reporting about our latest addition to the product line. Here’s the mention from back on February 19th when this ran as part of the article: “Food Matters: Celebrating Mardi Gras with Louisiana magazine, gumbo; new chips from Rhythm Superfoods”

The Austin-based Rhythm Superfoods was the first company to sell kale chips commercially, and this month, the company is releasing a new line of baked chips made from other nutrient-dense foods, including quinoa, amaranth, oat bran, purple corn, pea protein, sweet potato, carrot and broccoli. The ingredients used in the chips are non-GMO and do not contain gluten or dairy, and the chips ($3.49 for 5.5 ounces) are available at H-E-B, Natural Grocers, Whole Foods Market and Sprouts. More information at rhythmsuperfoods.com.”

Thank you Statesman! We’re always grateful to be noticed, but especially when it’s someone as important to our fair city as you are!
